Good Medical Practice

Updated standards for all UK doctors

The updated Good medical practice, will underpin the care provided to patients over the years ahead.

This version is the result of the largest engagement and consultation exercise ever conducted, bringing together medical professionals, patient groups and those with lived experience of healthcare.

The updated standards come into effect on 30 January 2024, and can be viewed on the GMC website

This is the first major update to the standards in 10 years, and it represents a shared agreement of what good practice looks like today. As well as drawing on thousands of consultation responses, the updated Good medical practice reflects what doctors have communicated and is designed to be applicable and relevant to everyday practice.
